How to record streaming video

May 20th, 2009 by admin

Today i will show you 2 ways you can record streaming video or download videos from YouTube video sharing site, some sites you can download the videos straight from there web site and some you may have to record the
video alltough you will lose some of the video and sound quality.
I will use a screen capture to record the video, i am using software called My Screen Recorder Pro, this is what the video looks like after i have recorded it from YouTube.

Here are the AVI settings i used with My Screen Recorder Pro.

Lets take YouTube for example, you can use http://keepvid.com to download videos its rather easy to download the files from YouTube when you use this site but you will need a FLV player you can download a free one from here http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/or you will need to convert the FLV to WMV or some other format that so that you can view the video.

After i had downloaded the video from YouTube, i converted it from FLV to WMV so i was able to edit it in windows movie maker 2 then re uploaded it to YouTube, this is what the video looks like now :)

There are many other programs that will let you download videos from YouTube, some will even convert the FLV format to AVI or WMV format, then you can watch it right away on your computer system.

Hypercam how to use and settings

April 27th, 2009 by admin

Ok there is many programs that can capture games, i use 2 of them and find they are ok for the stuff i do, Hypercam and Fraps, Hypercam is what i will talk about in this artical.

I find that Hypercam is really good recording windowed games it does have many settings and i will tell you the settings that i use, which i find are suitable :)
I find these settings are very good with no lag or jerky mouse stuff and 5 mins of game time is only around 30mb compared to Fraps which would be about 500mb.

Here are the settings i use below.

With recording sound you have to make sure that you enable this in volume control, heres a video to show you what i mean :)

See how i have Record Cursor selected, in some games you need this as the cursor will not show up, this only applies if the game has custom cursors.

Camtasia screen capture

When i am doing active window or desktop capture i have been using a program called Camtasia Studio 5 it does take time though and it is tricky to use if you have not used it before, there are many settings with Camtasia Studio 5 most i don’t even know my self what they are, but i know the basics. camtasiastudio

For capturing game play i use hypercam, i will talk about that a bit later on.
Now when you start Camtasia Studio 5 click on New Screen Recording, then select the screen area you want to record
you can do this buy holding down the mouse button and dragging the mouse pointer to where you want it, or as you move the mouse over the screen, Camtasia makes intelligent and dynamic suggestions by interpreting the nearest rectangular zone, see in the video below to see what i mean :)

After you have done a recording you will be able to edit it.
It will come up with a preview of what you recorded, just click on the save button give it a file name, it will save it as .camrec which you can edit in a moment, select edit your recording, i just leave the dimensions as is, now you will come up with a edit screen just like in windows movie maker, there is a lot of settings and options here, the only thing i use is the zoom-n-pan feature for now, when we want to save it, select File then select Produce Video As… this will bring up the window Production Wizard here you can choice what type on video setting or compression you want, you probably want to upload it to Youtube or which ever video sharing site, here i always select Custom Production Settings, then you have the choice, Flash, Wmv, Mov, Avi etc.

I choice Wmv so i can edit it later in Windows Movie Maker, I Just leave the settings as they are in the Profiles

pro

The next window i leave the Video Size As is, the next window as is, and for the last window you can give your video a name and select where you want to save it for later editing.
